Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! The Butterfield Homeowners Administration is thankful for your continued support and looks forward to serving you throughout the holidays and into the new year.
Though Christmas is not for a few weeks yet, we have decided to send our monthly newsletter out a bit early in order to make sure you are aware of all of the nice Christmas festivities that will be taking place over in Lombard, and also in Butterfield.
Holiday Lights in Lilacia Park
According to OnlyInYourState.com, “Lombard’s Lilacia Park is well-known for its stunning annual display of lilacs and tulips in the spring, but it also turns into a winter wonderland every December. If you’re looking for the best winter town in Illinois with an absolutely amazing display of holiday lights, you’ll want to clear your calendar and head over to Lombard this season. It’s great for families with kids of all ages, and it’ll quickly turn into a family tradition where you’ll create memories to last a lifetime.”
The lights are put up every year by volunteers throughout the 8.5-acre garden. Some of the lights are animated, and add interesting effects to some of the displays, such as a choo-choo train with what appears to be moving wheels. There are plenty of nice scenes to pose with to create some nice Christmas memories, plus a Christmas Trolley that travels around all the major historical areas in downtown Lombard.
The Holiday Lights in Lilacia Park festival will kick off on Sunday, December 2nd, 2023 with the annual tree lighting at 5:30 p.m., and continue to enlighten downtown Lombard through Monday, January 1, 2024. If you receive this email too late to attend the lighting ceremony, the lights will still be available to enjoy through New Year’s Day. You can find out more information about Lombard’s Christmas events, and which are available to non-residents, on the Lombard Park District website, or their Facebook page.

There are a number of other Lombard and Butterfield Christmas festivities included but not limited to the following:
Jingles House Decorating Contest
Jingles the reindeer is back and looking for some of the most festive and creative houses in Lombard. Over 25 Lombard families have registered their houses in the 2023 house decorating contest in order to help bring some holiday spirit to Lombard. Participating houses will be added to their Holiday Lights Map so that families can drive around town and take in the sights of the holidays. Houses entered in the contest will be voted on by the Lombard community only, but of course anyone can enjoy them. The winning houses will receive a prize, and of course, bragging rights! The registered houses will have their lights on each night starting at 4:30 pm from December 2-17. Winners will be announced on December 21.
Hughes Digital Christmas
Last but not least, though it is not in Lombard proper, Butterfield’s very own Hughes Digital Christmas sets the standard for residential holiday displays for Butterfield, Lombard, and beyond. Mike Hughes has done an amazing job of setting up a professional-grade display with multiple lights and lighted, animated inflatable outdoor figures, all synced with a custom radio station (101.5 FM) that viewers can tune in to while watching the show. The display is on 2S231 Valley Rd., Lombard, IL 60148 and is open from November 25, 2023, to January 1, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm on Sundays through Thursdays and from 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Please donate generously.
We take our close neighbor Lombard for granted, but Lombard really does have a lot of nice activities to enjoy. And though Butterfielders are not residents of Lombard and cannot take advantage of some of their services, many of their Christmas activities are free for anyone. If you would be interested in the BHA putting on similar activities for Butterfield residents, please let us know by calling us at 630-627-4845, or emailing us at butterfieldhomeownersassoc@gmail.com.
